Vigilance Awareness Week -2011 at ECL

ECL celebrated Vigilance Awareness Week from 31st October to 5th November, 2011 as per directives of Central Vigilance Commission.

Sri Rakesh Sinha, CMD, ECL administered the pledge of honesty to bring about integrity and transparency in all spheres of our activities and also to work unstintingly for eradication of corruption in all spheres of life. Messages received from President, Vice-President,  Prime Minister and CVC were read out by S/Sri S K Srivastava, Director(Personnel), S Chakraborty, Director(Technical)OP, Shekhar Saran, CGM(P&P), and  N Adhikary,GM(Vigilance) respectively. Speaking on this occasion, CMD, ECL stressed on the need to be transparent and curb delays in day to day working. 

Similarly, pledge was administered by the respective GMs/CGMs in the Area establishments and at Project and Unit levels by the respective heads at 11 AM on 31.10.2011.

During the week long celebrations, the following  activities were organized :

Banners and posters with anti-corruption slogans were displayed at all strategic points in all the areas and ECL Headquarters.

At Sodepur Area, a play was staged with the title “Satyameva Jayate” on 31.10.2011 on the theme of corruption prevalent in private hospitals in treatment/operations etc. and the plight of the patients with the ultimate result of revolution ending corruption.


Vigilance Awareness programmes were organized at  Sodepur Area on 31.10.2011 from 2 PM onwards (covering  Sodepur, Salanpur, Sripur & Satgram.Areas), at Sonepur Bazari Area on 01.11.2011 from 11.00 AM (covering Sonepur Bazari, Kunustoria, Kajora & Kenda. Areas), at Mugma Area on 2.11.2011 from 11 AM (covering Rajmahal, SP Mines & Mugma. Areas) & at Jhanjra Area on 3.11.2011 from 11 AM (covering Jhanjra, Pandaveswar, Bankola & JK Ropeways Areas).
ECL Vigilance Department organized slogan writing competition, sit & draw competition and debate competion on 02.11.2011 at A G Church School, Sodepur where students of different schools participated.  The winning candidates and participants were given prizes and certificates.

A one day “Vigilance Awareness” programme for Management Tainees was organized at HRD auditorium on 2.11.2011.

On 3.11.2011, Essay Competition was organized among officers and non-executive employees of ECL HQ.  The topic for essay was “Do the present anti-corruption drives bring the desired results?” for executives and for non-executive employees (either in English, Hindi orBangali) it was “What should ECL Management further do to bring in greater transparency?”.  Prizes for this competition will be given away during the next GMs/CGM’s Coordination Meeting  to be held in December, 2011.

A One Day SEMINAR was organized on 04.11.2011 in the Conference Hall of ECL HQ  participated by  all CGMs/GMs of Areas and HODs of ECL  HQ and other senior officers. The seminar was inaugurated by CMD, FDs, CVO by lighting the lamp.  On this occasion, the inaugural issue of  Newsletter “Sachetna” was released by  CMD, ECL.   The seminar was divided into three sessions –   the first session on “Common irregularities in tendering procedure” was taken  by Sri P C Mishra, Sr.Faculty, IICM; 2nd session on  “Role and responsibility of IA, PO &    DA(Defence Asst.)” was taken  by Sri R G Singh, Ex-CGM, CIL, whereas the 3rd session on “Common irregularities in disciplinary procedures and provision of IPC & PC Act for combating corruption” was taken by Sri   S R Majumdar, SP, CBI/ACB, Kolkata.  During the seminar the ambience was electrified with  live interactions and fruitful discussions on the subjects.
Stakeholders’ Meet was organized on 05.11.2011 from 11 AM in the ECL Conference Hall at HQ presided over by  Sri S K Srivastava, Director(P) and attended by Shri N.Kumar, DT(P&P), Shri AK Soni, D(F) and Shri PK Sinha, CVO, ECL.  In his welcome address, CVO, ECL briefed the Stake Holders about the significance  of the meet and advised them to put forward their grievances.  25 representatives from different stake holders participated in the discussions. Fruitful  discussions took place  towards elimination of hurdles in process of work among stakeholders and concerned HODs.  Mementoes were presented to all stakeholders. The function ended with the vote of thanks by GM(Vigilance) to one and all  who made his/her contribution in making the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week – 2011 a grand success.
