In the month of May’09
ECL could achieve 22.64 L.Tes against a target of 23.58 L.Tes.
The main reason for shortfall in coal production was due to cyclone
Aila from afternoon of 25.5.09 to morning of 26.5.09 accompanied
by high velocity wind and continuous heavy rainfall. Due to
this coal production particularly in opencast projects of all the
operating areas including Rajmahal and SP Mines was severely
affected and most of the hired OC patches got waterlogged, production
from which could not be normalized till now.
Production from underground mines also suffered due to disruption of
power supply to many mines for long duration as due to cyclone Aila
trees/electric poles were uprooted and overhead lines snapped atmany ny
places. Normal power supply was restored after 2/3 days.
Stock
Liquidation:
Coal stock has been reduced from 2.52 MT (computed based on audited
stock as on 1.4.08) as on 1.4.09 to 1.92 MT as on 31.5.09. Coal stock
at Raniganj Coalfield reduced by about 0.26 MT and same at
Rajmahal reduced by about 0.24 MT
Profitability
During May’09, company made a loss of Rs. 49.12 crore against a loss of
Rs. 2.69 crore during May’08. The Loss during April to May’09 was Rs.
