You might be aware
that since beginning of
2011-12 we had chalked out a firm programme for achieving the target
for this fiscal. The prime inputs are Rapid Mechanisation of all
the manual underground mines by introduction of Mass Production
technology, Conversion of manual district into fully mechanised SDL/LHD
districts. We have ordered 113 SDLs, out of which more than 40
SDLs have already been received and are at different stages of
commissioning. The introduction of Roof Bolting machine is also in its
final stage. These steps will not only enhance production and
productivity of underground mines, but will also improve the safety
standard of our underground mines to a great extent.
So far as Mass
Production technology is concerned, we are already
operating two Continuous Miners – one each at Jhanjra and Sarpi.
The work order for the 2nd Continuous Miner and Powered Support
Longwall at Jhanjra has already been issued.
To augment the opencast production, expansion of different OCPs – both
in Rajmahal and Raniganj field is in progress. One of the significant
achievements is in principle approval of forestry clearance of Hura ‘C’
project and Stage I forestry clearance for Chitra OC. This will
definitely help in augmenting coal production from
Opencast. We have already started number of small hired OC
patches which will not only add to the production of the Company, but
will also help in curbing illegal mining to a great extent.

As a result of above actions,
the Company has registered a positive growth during the first quarter
of the financial year and has earned a profit of Rs.152 Cr for the
first time in the history of the Company. I believe that it is
the
beginning of transformation of a sick company into a highly profit
making company in future. I strongly believe that with the
coordination & active participation of all the stakeholders we
shall be able to achieve the goal of bringing out this Company from
BIFR very soon.
ECL is not
only dedicated about increasing production by following safety
measures, it is also vigilant about the CSR activities for its
employees and people of this industrial belt through organized medical
check up, supplying potable water, construction of roads, providing
educational facilities and all round development of the community at
large. Efforts of State/District Administration is appreciated for the
cause of curbing illegal mining and theft of coal.
